The Caruso Method doesn’t just teach you to climb: it teaches you to move. A structured technical path that builds solid foundations, before strength itself. Because strength runs out, technique stays.

Discover →The real question is: how much energy do you waste to reach the anchor? You can climb 5c, 6b, 7a or even 7b+: it doesn’t matter what grade you climb, but how you climb it. Instinct keeps you alive, but the more you climb without technique, the more you consolidate mistakes, reinforce inefficient movements, create chronic tension and waste energy.
Technique makes routes easier, climbing safer, movement conscious and more beautiful. And the most powerful part? It doesn’t depend on age, talent or the grade you start from.
There is an important difference between a school that teaches you to climb and one that makes you understand how to climb. The first gives you a few notions. The second gives you tools. What I do, through the Caruso Method, is make you aware of the correct movement to adopt for the route and the grade while you climb, abandoning instinct and chance.
The Method comes from over thirty years of study by Mountain Guide Paolo Caruso, who systematically analysed the movement of the human body in the vertical, from balance on friction to the overhang, combining biomechanics, mountaineering experience and principles from Eastern disciplines such as Qi Gong and Tai Ji Quan. The result is a recognised technical-teaching system, now taught in Italy by IAMAS-certified Sport Climbing Instructors (Maestri di Arrampicata Sportiva).
IAMAS is the national trade association that brings together the Caruso Method Sport Climbing Instructors, founded in 2020. It now has 55 members, including 33 certified Instructors (1st and 2nd degree) and 17 Aspiring Instructors. Paolo Caruso, the creator of the Method, is its Technical Supervisor and responsible for course quality.
I am a first-degree IAMAS Sport Climbing Instructor (Maestro di Arrampicata Sportiva), certified since September 2024. I teach with an approach different from the traditional one: not based only on strength or grade, but on conscious movement, balance, fluidity and control of the gesture.
My interest in training began at the Scuola Graffer in Trento and with my encounter with the Caruso Method, which taught me that getting better doesn’t mean gripping harder, but moving better. I work on movement technique, breathing, weight management and route reading, to help you climb with more efficiency, less effort and greater safety.
